NOAA ProTech Scientific and Technical Program Support

Since 2018, EAS has been contracting with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to complete multiple projects in support of NOAA”s Protech Fisheries Program. EAS provides NOAA with Scientific and Technical Program Support Services for the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, Southwest Fisheries Science Center, California Coastal Office, and throughout the West Coast Region.

EAS personnel provide a wide variety of technical support services including: aid in the implementation of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSFCMA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); development of analytical tools to improve efficiency of accessing data and running models; GIS support for resource and spatial management for marine resource projects such as spatial distribution of fishing effort, linking sea turtle nesting sites, and assessing aquaculture site suitability; economic and sociocultural research on the magnitude and distribution of the benefits and costs of living marine resource management including sovial science data collection and completion of economic and social science analyses on fishing industries, ports, and other stakeholders to generate data for management decisions.
