Phase I Archaeological Survey & Inventory at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story

EAS is conducting a systematic Phase I, Intensive Archaeological Survey (Identification and Inventory) of approximately 39 acres in the Fort Story area of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (JEBLCFS) in Virginia Beach, VA.  Pedestrian surveys are completed during appropriate low-tide cycles to ensure maximal pedestrian, surface collection coverage.  This work is intended to fulfill the Department of the Navy’s NHPA (National Historic Preservation Act) section 110 requirement to identify archaeological resources and to support NHPA Section 106 requirements.

Smaller surface artifacts are recovered, processed, and inventoried and larger artifacts are mapped, photographed, and documented.  EAS is also completing a final report covering all findings of the surveys.
